Mannlicher Schoenauer Rifle Serial Numbers

No way of telling who the first buyer was, nor do I know what the original selling price was, either in dollars or rupees. What I can tell you, is that you have a beautiful and excellently-made rifle or carbine. Shivam, I have no information about your specific rifle, however, M-S model 1903 rifles in that serial number range, 57xx, were being imported by Von Lengerke & Detmold, a New York sporting goods retailer, in 1911.

Schoenauer

Your rifle was very likely made that year or shortly before. Your rifle was made in Austria and VL&D imported the M-S rifles from Johann Springer Erben of Vienna, Austria. Although Springer is still in business, they no longer have the rifle records from that time. The cartridge is the 6.5 x 54MS, with 6.5mm being approximately.256 inches.

I do not have a VL&D catalog from 1911 but in the 1923 catalog a Model 1903 went for $55 without a telescopic sight and $110 with. Courtesy of Griffin & Howe, Inc. Bob Beach Records Archivist.
